The Department of Economics has been selected by the College of Arts & Sciences as the recipient of the 2006 Department Advancement Award. In his Fall address, Dean Olson observed that "The Department was very successful in engaging their alumni, raising $128,279 in gifts and pledged gifts. The faculty engaged in department-wide discussions to establish the department's funding priorities, created an impressive advisory board of distinguished alumni, and launched a successful development campaign through the Board."
Professor Jim Payne, Department Chair, thanked the alumni for their generous support and outlined the how these funds are being applied toward Department priorities. The Scott M. Elliott Endowment Fund provides annual support for an undergraduate scholarship, a graduate scholarship, a faculty excellence award, and research awards in both the graduate and undergraduate programs. Two additional endowments were created through the efforts of the Economics Department Advisory Board: the F. Russell Glasener - Economics Advisory Board Undergraduate Scholarship Fund and the James V. Koch - Economics Advisory Board Faculty Development Fund.
